Proposals to Amend Advance Directives Act of 1999
At this time proposals to amend the law are being drafted. Texas Right to Life, a group that has helped many families in the fight to save loved ones from being removed from life support against their will, has worked with the Texas Advance Directives Coalition for more than a year to achieve agreement on proposals to change the law. As of their last meeting in 2006, no consensus was reached. Texas Right to Life is working on a proposal to change the law. We will post proposals as they become available.
Our position is to support only proposals to amend the law requiring hospitals to honor patient instructions to continue treatment until the patient is transferred to another facility. We will not support any compromise that violates patient rights.
